Page permissions

SamePage offers granular security features that allow a user to configure page permissions and control access to any page within a project that he/she owns.

Generally project level permissions apply to all pages in that project. Page permission are used when further permission limitations are to be applied on a particular page.

By default, all members of a project have read, comment and edit access to all pages within the project

From SamePage 3.3, the Page Permissions option is available on the toolbar under the 'Actions' tab. This enables the user to use this functionality without having to open the page in edit mode.

To change default page permissions in SamePage 3.3:

  • On the toolbar, click on actions.
  • Choose the permissions option
  • On the opened pop-up screen, check or uncheck the privilege check boxes associated with each user.
  • Click save to save the updated settings.

Setting Page Permissions:

Page Permissions can only be set by page owners. The 'Permissions' option will only be available to them. Clicking on the 'Permissions' link will open up a pop up window similar to the following screen shot.

From the above given example, it can be seen that the user mjacob is the page owner and users Jack, Mary and Tom are members of the project the particular page belongs to.

By default all the users, namely Jack, Mary and Tom, will have read, comment and edit permissions for the page as they are members. Selective permissions can be granted here among members. For example in case the page owner (mjacob)  does not want any other member to view his/her page, then he can explicitly grant himself read, comment and edit permissions. This way no other user will be able to read, comment or edit that particular page.

The important point to remember is that, if one user is given a permission, that means that others will not have that privilege unless they are explicitly given the permission. For example, if user Jack is given read permission it means that the other users Mary and Tom will not have read permission to that page unless they are explicitly given read permission.

Note: The page owner always has read, comment and edit permission to the pages he/she owns, irrespective of other user permissions.

Taking the same users for another example, if the page owner (mjacob) wants to grant read, comment and edit permission to user Jack and grant read and comment permission to user Mary. The page permissions screen will appear as follows.

This setting will leave user Tom without read, comment or edit permissions. The page owner (mjacob) will however have read, comment and edit permissions even though it is not explicitly granted.
