A new version of a page is created each time the page is saved.SamePage allows the user to trace page histories and see the previous versions of the page.The Versions page is essentially an improved history page (History tab was present is all versions of SamePage before 3.4). A comprehensive listing of previously saved versions of a page is displayed in the version page. Version specific details for tracking page histories such as date, time, version number, user and size are also displayed for every page version. A specific version of the page can be viewed by clicking the view icon.
This tab provides features to rollback changes made to the current version of a page, compare any two versions of a page or delete unwanted versions.
- Pages versions can be selected by clicking their respective check boxes.
- Pages can be rolled back to a previous version by selecting them and clicking on the rollback button.
- Page versions can be compared by selecting them and clicking the compare button. The comparison results are displayed side-by-side in a new screen.
- Page versions can be deleted by selecting them and clicking the delete button. Page versions can be deleted if the user has been assigned appropriate permissions.
- The 'Change Notes' column gives information about the changes that have been made on the page.
in SamePage 3.6. Now drafts of a page can also be compared to previously saved versions. If a page is saved as a draft its contents can still be compared to previous versions. The draft page is listed as 'Draft' under the version number as shown in the following screenshot.
Comparing Versions
Two versions of a page can be compared by selecting the two versions and clicking on 'Compare'. Comparing the contents of the versions is a very easy way to identify the changes that have been made. The higher of the two chosen versions is displayed on the right side and the other on the left column of the page.
The new contents included in the later versions are highlighted in green. This way it is easy to identify what new inclusions have been made to the page,without having to go through it fully.
The content that was present in the previous version but deleted in the later version is in red and is stricken through.
You can choose to view the changes in latest page or the changes in the previous versions by clicking on the 'Toggle Versions' link.
The toggled version of the above given example is as follows:
in SamePage 3.6. A 'Compare Versions' tab has been added under the 'Actions' tab on the toolbar. This option is available on both the View and Edit tabs. This way versions can be compared even while on the edit tab. Pages that have been saved as drafts also appear on the versions list and can be compared to previously saved versions just like how 2 different versions can be compared. To compare a draft and a previous version select the 'Draft' and any other version and click on 'Compare'.
