Personalized Dashboard - While SamePage always made it easy for end users to contribute content, one of the frequent complaints was that the landing page layout is fairly static. We have addressed that through the personalized dashboard. The landing page of SamePage is now a fully customizable "portal-like" dashboard where users can choose a layout and drag-n-drop widgets. System and Domain administrators can also optionally customize the Dashboard for their instance/domain and control the degree of freedom end users would have in further personalizing their dashboard. The Dashboard would always be accessible from any screen through the Dashboard menu option of the toolbar.
Widgets - From SamePage 4.2, we are introducing the concepts of Widgets which are extensions of Plugins specifically meant for the Dashboard. Widgets are listed in the Widget Cabinet and can be dragged and dropped into the Dashboard. SamePage is coming out with around 25 widgets in the current release and will be adding new ones in every release. Similar to custom Plugins, On-Premise administrators can also define custom Widgets that would be available in their Dashboard. Widgets can be optionally disabled through the Widget Repository screen.
Better Email Integration - SamePage has significantly modified the advanced integration for Emails, making it based on the subject line of the email rather than the recepient id. This makes it much easier for On-Premise administrators to do an advanced email integration without making any changes to the mail server configuration. Users can email back the content or comments to a single email id and SamePage would automatically create/append it in the correct location by parsing the subject line of the email which would need to follow a specific protocol. Unresolved emails will be stored in the User Inbox. Users can also create new pages by simply emailing the contents along with attachments to the wiki.
User Inbox - SamePage had the concept of User Inbox for storing project invitations, comment notifications etc. This has been enhanced to also act as a temporary store for those emails sent by the user where SamePage is not able to resolve the correct location from the subject line. The user can login and move the email to the correct location within the repository. This feature will be very useful for users to quickly email certain content and files to the wiki and later move the content to the appropriate location from the Inbox.
More Analytics - As promised, SamePage is coming out with more analytics and metrics in every release. Following are the new reports and enhancements for Analytics in this release:
A report for the Most Active Contributor report has been added at the Project level as well as for System level Analytics. This measures the overall contribution (Edits + Comments)
Two new summary reports - Usage Summary and Login Summary have been introduced at System level. These metrics (available for day, week, month or year) give a pretty good idea of the overall wiki usage to the administrators/management.
The Detail view of reports now have a tabular format and give the complete list with pagination. For example, the Most Popular Projects Summary report would give the 10 most popular projects, but the Detail Report will give the complete list of projects with their respective popularity ranking.
The Project Summary Report has been enhanced with several new columns like total number of pages, attachments, storage etc. The report can also be ordered by one of these fields. This report will be handy for On-Premise administrators to charge-back individual project owners for resource utilization, if needed.
Support for Office 2007 - SamePage can now parse and index attachments in the Office 2007 format including docx, pptx, xlsx etc for Search. Further, SamePage will now integrate with OpenOffice 3.x thus facilitating import of Word 2007 documents. The Word import feature has also been improved as a result.
WYSIWYG Enhancements - Several improvements have been introduced in the WYSIWYG editor in this release.
Grids and Panels - Authors can now insert grids with different layouts (2 column, 3 column etc) and panels of different types, thus creating rich "portal-like" pages. These grids can be seen only in the Edit mode of the Page.
Link Window - The Create/Modify Link window has been significantly enhanced. It no longer brings the complete list of pages considerably improving the initial response. If required, the author can expand through the Browse/Search link. Further, the list of pages can also be filtered based on Title, Last created By, Last Modified By etc. By default, it shows the Recently Modified pages which are most likely to be linked.
Table Copy-Paste - Tables in a page can now be copy-pasted using new "Copy Table" and "Paste" options within the editor.
Blog Enhancements - A number of blog enhancements have been bundled in this release.
Blog postings can be rated just like Wiki pages.
The Blog landing page has two new panels displaying the Most Viewed Posts and the Most Commented Posts.
Similar to new Projects, System administrators can now restrict the ability to create new Blogs to specific users.
New Plugins - A lot of new out-of-the-box plugins are available with this release. Click here for more info on plugins.
Tag Cloud Plugin - This Plugin creates a Tag Cloud based on Tags assigned to Pages of a specific or all Projects. It also provides option to show the number of Pages that are tagged with a particular Tag.
Recent Activity Plugin - This Plugin creates a Recent Activity list similar to the one seen in the Dashboard. It gives options to restrict the list to a specific project or show only Pages, Comments etc. It also provides the "View All" link to go to the relevant Recent Activity screen.
Project List Plugin - This Plugin creates a Project list similar to the one seen in the Dashboard. It gives options to restrict the list to Favorite Projects, All projects etc. It also provides the "View All" link to go to the new Project Listing screen.
Top Rated Pages Plugin - This Plugin creates a list of the Top Rated Pages from a specific project or across all projects. This is very useful to promote or highlight pages based on their ratings.
Most Viewed Pages Plugin - This Plugin creates a list of the Most Viewed Pages from a specific project or across all projects. This is very useful to promote or highlight pages based on higher viewership.
Project Member Plugin - This Plugin creates a profile image gallery of all the members of a Project. Clicking the profile image of a particular member takes you to his/her profile page.
My Drafts Plugin - This Plugin creates a list of the Draft pages of the logged-in user from a specific project or across all projects. This allows the user to get a quick list of pages he is working on but not yet published for others.
Miscellaneous Enhancements and Bug-Fixes - Following are some of the some of the important enhancements and bug-fixes included in this release are :
Tickets renamed to Issues - Based on customer feedback, we have renamed the "Support Ticket" functionality within a project to "Issues" and changed the corresponding icons. Referring to it as Issues Management rather than Support makes it easier for business users to relate to and also avoids confusion with the SamePage product support offering.
Project Listing Screen - This change is related to the introduction of the Personalized Dashboard. Since the landing page is now a dashboard, the toolbar provides a separate Projects menu option which takes you to a Project Listing screen which also provides other project details like Project Owner, Description etc . The Project Listing screen would continue to respect the project filter preference of the user. The Projects link of the crumb would always take the user to this project listing screen.
Quick Links - The Favorites link in the header has now been replaced with Quick Links. This allows the user to quickly access not only his/her bookmarked pages but also those pages that he had recently visited. The recently visited pages list is restricted to the last 10 and is persisted on log off.
More Privileges to 'System' user - The System user is a super-user which already has read access to all pages across all projects irrespective of Project or Page level permissions. This has been further enhanced in 4.2 to give system user the privileges to edit/move/delete any page, override or change page permissions, delete comments etc. Essentially, this gives the system user the ability to "fix" any urgent content issues without resorting to back-end changes.
More Privileges to Project Owner - The Project Owner privileges have been further enhanced in 4.2 to allowhim/her to override or change page permissions, delete comments etc.for his/her project. Essentially, this gives the project owner the ability to "fix" any urgent content issues for his/her project without the intervention of system user.
Restriction of Move/Delete options - Based on feedback from our enterprise customers, we have increased content security one notch further by restricting the Page Move and Delete options to just the Page Owners (for their Pages) and Project Owners (for all pages of the Project). Project members can still edit or copy Pages but they cannot delete or move Pages.
Project Export Enhancements - Performance has been improved for the Project Export functionality. Also, it gives an option to export only the latest versions instead of all versions. This is very useful if you want to create a point-in-time snapshot of the project or save it as a template project for creating new projects in the future.
Richer Default Home Page - The Home page of a Project that gets created at the time of Project creation is now richer with grids, panels and default plugins for Recent Activity, Child Pages, Tag Clouds etc. It can be further customized as necessary. This applies only for new Projects.
Recent Activity of Projects - The Recently Modified Pages option of the toolbar has been replaced with a Recent Activity option which gives a much more comprehensive list of all the recent activity of the Project. It can be filtered for Pages, Comments, Threads etc.
Intelligent Versioning - More intelligence has been added to the versioning feature to create versions only if the content actually changes. This prevents unnecessary versions from getting created when someone clicks on Edit but saves the page without actually making any content changes.
Versioning for News, Forum & Issues - Content in News, Forum & Issues were always versioned but the Versions link is now available for these content types. Just like wiki pages, news items or forum threads can also be compared or rolled back to previous versions.
Page Permissions in Search - Search feature takes into account page permissions while displaying the results to end user. This fixes the security issue in the current behavior where the pages with page permissions appear in the search results along with summary information though they are not available for viewing.
Search Enhancements - The Search feature has been further enhanced to improve relevance of the search results. Also a Suggest feature (Did you mean?) has been added which suggests a few close alternative search terms when the specific search term does not return any results.
